The relevancy of the Tea Party in today’s media

The Tea Party movement began in 2009 as a grassroots effort to give the power back to the people of the United States.
Since those early days of rallies, the Tea Party has grown and many Conservative politicians will seek out a Tea Party endorsement when running for office. The 2010 general elections saw a Freshman class filled with many Tea Party endorsed candidates elected to U.S. Congress and the U.S. Senate; among those in that Freshman class are Senator Rand Paul from Kentucky, Senator Marco Rubio from Florida, and Congressman Allen West also from Florida.
However, if one were to only listen to the Main Stream Media (MSM), one would think those who align themselves with the Tea Party are a bunch of ‘fringe element lunatics.’
Those who would like to see a Federal government more closely resembling the limited government the Founding Fathers had in mind when they drafted the United States Constitution, beg to differ. A recent poll shows registered voters who identify themselves as Tea Party supporters now stands at 22% while registered voters who define themselves as Liberal is a mere 21%.
The MSM, Liberal by nature, would like to continue to mislead the Moderate public. Today we are seeing headlines such as “Tea Party the Cause of the S&P Downgrade.” Rather than face the real problem of America’s debt (over spending), those in the MSM are blaming those folks who pay the taxes for not paying more taxes.
The Tea Party knows the Federal government (and some states) is in an out-of-control death spiral of unsustainable deficits brought on by more and more ‘big’ government programs. Many of those programs (or mandates) are liberty-robbing intrusions into our every day lives. In addition, the government has created thousands of regulations designed to undermine the entrepreneurial spirit from which this great country was born.
So what is the Tea Party? Basically it follows the same guidelines proposed by the Founding Fathers and written in the United States Constitution such as: limited federal government, individual freedoms, personal responsibility, free markets, and returning political power to the states and the people. Oh my, how radical is that?
All this brings to mind a quote from Mahatma Gandhi: “First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.”
Friends, keep up the fight – we are on the way to a victory!

Budget deal

It looks like a major comprise has been reached regarding the debt ceiling and the budget. Although it is not a perfect deal by far, it may be something we can live with for now.
Many very Conservatives, especially Tea Party members, are decrying the compromise as a ‘sell-out’ by those Conservatives elected to the House in 2010. However, we must remember that it takes all three elements to get anything passed: the House, the Senate, and the Executive. Only the House is controlled by Republicans (and some of them are RINOs). The Republicans were also up against the media who were slanting the news in such a way that the Republicans were looking like stubborn politicians who only wanted to “give tax breaks to big business and throw grandma off the cliff.”
For anything to move forward there was going to have to be compromise. Tea Party Republicans are being vilified but to take a stand where everyone loses is not in anyone’s best interest. There was no way the Tea Party was going to get EVERYTHING their way but they were able to take significant steps towards getting more control on an out of control government.
Rather than continuing to gripe, moan, and complain about what didn’t happen, it is time for Conservatives to step up and celebrate the small victories. It is also time to start laying the foundation for future elections, especially the rapidly approaching 2012 elections. We need to work hard to maintain control of the House and then tackle the Senate and the Executive. We need more people in the Legislative Branch like Allen West, Marco Rubio, and Rand Paul. We need to work hard to make sure that Barack Obama is a one-term President. Then and only then can we truly make progress to fiscal responsibility.

Five Simple Sentences....important thoughts...
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by
legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for,
another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that
the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not
have to work because the other half is going to take care
of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it
does no good to work, because somebody else is going
to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the
end of any nation.
Can you think of a reason for not sharing this?
Neither could I......

You can’t legislate good parenting

This week a jury in Florida found defendant Casey Anthony not guilty of killing her two-year-old daughter, Caylee. Because of the circumstances surrounding this case and the fact that Casey Anthony did not report her daughter missing for over a month, many assumed her to be guilty.
Well, Casey Anthony was guilty. She was guilty of not being a good parent at the very least. Unfortunately bad parenting isn’t against the law of the land or the law of nature. Sometimes it seems that there should be a test before reproduction is allowed to take place, much like a test to see if one is smart enough to drive a car.
It is really hard to imagine any parent going for that length of time without calling authorities. Good parents would have called the police and would have been hysteric if a two-year-old was missing for minutes, let alone a month. Added to this, Casey partied to her heart’s content and did not seem to be actively looking for the missing child.
The United States was caught up in this drama and watched numerous television shows for months detailing every spoken word from the courtroom. When the verdict was handed down, the nation, for the most part, was outraged. People wanted to do something for Caylee. They wanted to see that little girl get some kind of justice, any justice.
Many states are now considering legislation, in light of this one case, to make it a crime to not report a child missing. Many are calling for a “Caylee’s Law.” This sounds good on the surface but a good parent does not need a law to tell them to report a missing child. A good parent knows how to parent.
Unfortunately we have become a society that encourages bad parenting. Teen mothers? No problem – high schools will allow teen moms to bring the little ones to school with them (and let someone else watch the child). Single mothers? No problem – welfare actually encourages and pays more for households when there are no responsible adult men around. Want to abandon your child? No problem – just drop the baby off at the fire or police station. Your child is an out of control little monster? Not your problem – it is society’s fault.
What we need is good common sense and solid family structure. Good parenting is learned from good examples not more legislation. We don’t need more laws that can’t or won’t be enforced.

There is no perfect candidate
Recently a conservative friend asked me “Why do Conservatives eat their own?” What he meant by that was that we tend to attack someone who might not share every point of view as our own.
Here is a big shocker for all to consider: There is no perfect candidate!
The race to replace Barack Obama as President of the United States has attracted quite the long list of Republican candidates. Each is developing a platform and each has agendas and ideas they would hope to implement if elected President.
Each has baggage as well.
What we don’t need is personal attacks on any of these potential candidates so early in the election season. The Democrats will attack and attack with a vengeance in due time. Republicans need to maintain a high ground amongst other Republicans. Recent televised debates were a welcome change from past attacks and praise for fellow Republicans was heard loudly and consistently from all participants. The media really didn’t like that. One moderator tried to provoke but to no avail. Kudos to the debate participants for this!
The other part of not having the perfect candidate comes during the actual general election. One way to assure that this current administration is awarded a second term it to pout and not vote simply because the Republican nominee “isn’t conservative enough” or “is too conservative” or “black” or “a woman” or whatever other stupid reason. Sometimes both candidates ‘stink’ and you just have to hold your nose and vote for the one who smells the least offense.
There were many, many Republicans who stayed home and didn’t vote in 2008 because they had issues with the McCain/Palin ticket. How did that work out?

Here comes the attacks

Michele Bachmann has formally announced her candidacy for President of the United States. As soon as the announcement had been made (and for some reporters, even before Congresswoman Bachmann's announcement), the attacks were starting. I even saw a post from one blogger who referenced her breasts!

Atheists angry with street sign honoring 9-11 firefighters

In a neighborhood in New York City a new street sign has been erected to pay tribute to and to honor seven firefighters from Engine 202 and Ladder 101 firehouse who died on September 11, 2011; this sign is very near that firehouse. The new street sign is "Seven in Heaven Way."
- Of course the victims of 9/11 were not solely Christians. The attacks on the United States killed people from all backgrounds and religions and even, I suppose, some atheists.
- Heaven is not a specifically Christian concept. Many of the religions of the world have some concept of an afterlife whether it is called Heaven or Paradise or something else. Christianity, Judaism, and Islam all directly refer to Heaven.
- Separation of Church and state isn't really a part of our United States Constitution. The first amendment in the Bill of Rights reads, in its entirety, Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people to peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
- The street sign does not compel one to adapt a religion but rather the sign simply honors those seven heroes, all from this one firehouse.
